How to Deep Clean your Shower the Right Way

The shower is a place of pampering and ridding yourself of dirt from a long, busy day. It makes sense to ensure it’s clean and germ-free, right?

Cleaning your shower should go beyond giving it a weekly wipe down. You have to ensure you clean all the nooks and crannies to prevent mould and other build ups.

Rid your shower of the pesky germs with the following tips to ensure your shower is squeaky clean.

Tip #1: Showerhead

When cleaning your shower, have you ever thought to clean your showerhead? If yes, kudos! If no, you need to stop overlooking this very important element.

The showerhead is where the water (which you clean yourself with) comes out, so it makes sense to give it some TLC every few weeks.

How to clean it:

Simply remove the showerhead from its place in the shower, place it in a plastic bag filled with white vinegar, and let it soak overnight. Simple, right? Just ensure the white vinegar covers the whole showerhead, so it can be effectively soaked. The next day, remove the showerhead, put it back in its place, and let the water run through it to rinse the baking soda and vinegar out.

Tip #2: Shower Doors or Shower Curtain

Having shower doors that are as clear as the sky is a lovely sight to see. It feels as if your whole bathroom is shining.

Cleaning your shower door or curtain is the next step of having a squeaky clean shower. Cleaning it prevents mould from gathering in the small spaces (the shower door) or from appearing on the curtain itself.

How to clean it:

Cleaning your shower door can easily be done. Mix some white vinegar with baking soda until you’ve created a thick paste. You can add the paste directly to the problem areas and then leave the paste on for an hour or longer. When the hour is up, scrub the door with a microfibre cloth. Simple as that!

A shower curtain is easy to clean. All you have to do is take it off from its hanging place and place it in the washing machine.

Tip #3: Shower Tray or Shelves

It’s easy for people to forget about the trays and shelves in the shower. It’s important to clean these trays and shelves otherwise they’ll also get grimy build up which nobody wants.

If you have a tray prone to rust, ensure you clean the area on which it stands or hangs, to prevent it from staining the shower walls.

How to clean it:

Keeping the shower shelves or trays clean is as easy as scrubbing it once every week. But because we’re all about the deep cleaning methods today, we suggest spraying it with a bathroom cleaner (obviously first removing the products) and letting it sit for 20 to 30 minutes. After that, just scrub the tray or shelve and you’re all set!

Extra Tip

After showering, open a window for a few hours to allow the room’s humidity level to lower a bit. This will help with preventing mould and grime build-up.

What are great tools to deep clean your shower?

  • A shower cleaner or vinegar and baking powder mixed together works wonders
  • An abrasive sponge or a brush
  • Spray bottle – This is for if you use vinegar by itself

How many times should you deep clean your shower?

Cleaning your shower should be a weekly thing but DEEP cleaning can be done every two to three months. This will help prevent the build-up of germs and grime.
